SSeville is the capital of the province of Andalusia and Spain’s 4th largest city with a population of around 700 000. The city lies on a fertile plain on the banks of the Rio Guadalquivir in one of the warmest areas on the European continent. The basic plan of Seville was laid out in the Middle Ages: the prime intention of the builders was to provide protection from the sun and heat. Seville is a veritable labyrinth of alleys and squares, full of corners and angles that yield surprising views. The typical houses of the old city have white walls, a balcony full of flowerpots and above all a patio, an interior courtyard that in this form is also an Andalusian creation.
