LANGUAGE SCHOOL IN BARCELONA
The International House in Barcelona is located in the centre; only 5 minutes walk from Plaza Catalunya, the city’s most important junction. The city beaches, the Olympic harbour and the Barceloneta quarter are a few minutes away by bus or Metro. The school, rich in tradition, was founded in 1972 and occupies 6 floors of an elegant early 19th century building. International House has a total of 40 functional, bright, air-conditioned classrooms. A cafeteria with a sunny terrace, a library where students can take out books, DVDs and videos and a computer room with 10 PCs and free Internet access are available for students to use. The teaching staff are all university graduates who have received special training in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. The school has also earned a reputation as an official training centre for teachers of Spanish.
ACCOMMODATION
Most host families live near the school; some are slightly farther away but no more than 20 to 25 minutes walk or by public transport. Accommodation is in single rooms with half board. Some families are so called “executive” host families, where students have their own bathroom. Early reservations are recommended if accommodation with these families is desired. Care is taken that there are never 2 students of the same nationality with the same host family. Single rooms in apartments (shared with other students) or in hotels are also available as alternative accommodation. Details are available upon request.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The school offers an extensive recreational programme. Film evenings, guided tours of the most important sights and walking tours of the city are offered weekly and are generally free of charge for students. On weekends, a range of excursions are available at extra cost (e.g. Figueras, Tarragona, Montserrat or Girona). Sports enthusiasts have a wide range of possibilities in Barcelona. The school is happy to give advice and assist students in planning their free time.
