AMERICA’S TIBET
Bolivia is surrounded by high mountains, and is referred to the the Tibet of America, as it is the highest altitude and most isolated country in Latin America. The population is still made up of over 50% who continue to follow traditional Indian rituals and beliefs, making it also the most distinctly Indian country on the whole continent. Because of the sparse population, the diversity of landscape and the relatively untouched outlying areas, visiting Bolivia offers the visitor the chance to still see animals roaming free in their wild habitat, more so than in most other South American countries.
MULTIFACETED FLORA AND FAUNA
Representing the Bolivian fauna include the rare spectacled bear, jaguar, vikuñas (a type of wild llama), llama, alpaka, anteater, tapir, capybara, turtle, alligator, black tiger fish, and condor. Though there is a fairly good national park system in Bolivia, the growing number of migrants in the amazon basin are making more and more of a mark. The massive profits that can be made by exploiting the natural resources, land, and tropical woods make environmental conservation a low priority for the government.
