THE HIGH POINT AND LOW POINT OF THE CONTINENT
Nature’s extraordinary variety is also reflected in the fact that the highest mountain in the American continent is in Argentina. Aconcagua is 6959 metres high. But argentina also has the lowest point on the continent: the Laguna del Carbon in Santa Cruz province is 105 metres below sea level.

ARGENTINA “A SCENIC WONDER”
Argentina can be divided into three main regions: the Andes in the west, the pampas in the north and east and Patagonia in the south. The Andes: sometimes green, sometimes barren- sometimes idyllic, and sometimes hostile, but always impressive. Deep blue lakes, untouched forests, excellent ski areas and imposing mountain peaks, some over 6000 metres high. The fertile pampas covers the north and east of the country. These broad plains are the home of the gauchos and their enormous herds of cattle. Far to the east, in the subtropical triangle where Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina come together, there are the Iguazu Falls, reputedly the world’s finest. Patagonia is a region of great extremes. It has might glaciers, including the most famous, Perito Moreno, one of the earth’s few growing glaciers. Many national parks are inviting destinations for walking tours and there is a network of nature reserves along the Atlantic coast, the most impressive of which is probably the Peninsula Valdes with its incomparable multiplicity of species.
