LANGUAGE SCHOOL IN PLAYA DEL CARMEN
International House opened in 2003. The school is located in the heart of Playa del Carmen just two blocks from the beach and immediately adjacent to a variety of restaurants, bars and shops. This makes it an ideal starting point for exploring after the days’ classes. The school building is in the typical regional colonial style and houses 10 air-conditioned classrooms, as well as a garden with exotic plants and trees, where students can take a refreshing drink at the schools own bar during the breaks. There is a French restaurant with an attractive menu on the ground floor of the school. International House has a worldwide orientation and the percentage of Swiss students is accordingly relatively small. The average age is around 26. The teachers are all university graduates and have extensive experience teaching Spanish as a foreign language.
ACCOMMODATION
The language school offers accommodation with host families in single rooms with half board. The school residence (Bed and Breakfast) with 22 generously sized rooms is around 5 minutes walk from the school. All rooms have their own bathroom, air-conditioning system, cable TV and fans. The residence also has a rooftop terrace, a kitchen and a large dining room. Accommodation in apartments or hotels can also be arranged upon request.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
International House offers a variety of recreational activities including welcome parties, discussion evenings with local students, joint dinners and much more. Weekend excursions (to Tulum, Chichen Itza, Merida or the island of Cozumel) are also organized on a regular basis. Playa del Carmen offers a considerable range of winter sports at its seaside location. This part of the Caribbean, beside the world’s second largest coral reef, has turquoise waters that are a paradise for divers and snorkellers. PADI diving courses are available in many locations. Sailors and windsurfers will find everything here during the high season. Other recreational possibilities include riding, golf and fishing.
