MEXICO- DREAM DESTINATION FOR MILLIONS
Mexico is for tourists a mythical land of irresistible charm, a country of fiestas, tacos, tortillas, deserts, mountains and the sheer joy of living. Mexicans party anywhere, anytime. Bullfights, colourful Indian markets and vibrant colours everywhere: they testify to Mexican temperament and lust for life. Great American writers like Tennessee Williams and John Steinbeck were fascinated by Mexico and wrote enthusiastically about it. Mexico is a large country, 2 million square kilometres of astounding multiplicity, contrasts and contradictions. Pine forests and banana plantations, fertile green meadows and dry deserts, the lonely reaches of the sierra and the pulsating metropolitan madhouse that is Mexico City, home to countless millions. Mexico’s culture is as colourful as its natural heritage and is reflected in its art, architecture and literature. Its ancient civilizations have left behind spectacular testimony to bygone civilizations.
IN THE LAND OF THE MAYAS
Mexico in the course of its history has been home to Olmacs, Mayas and Aztecs, to name only the most important of the many Indian cultures. Impressive testimony to these highly developed cultures are found well preserved or carefully restored in many places. The centre of Mayan culture was the Yucatan Peninsula: here you will find Uxmal, Chichen Itsa and Tulum among others, impressive ruins that testify to the former greatness of these cultures. There is ample reason to visit these historic sites and learn more about the fascinating history of the Mayas- a history that still conceals many secrets from scholars.
