Manuel Antonio is a national park and boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. The bays and the the stretches of beach are surrounded by rain forest and are ideal and safe for swimming and snorkeling. In these clear waters one can discover an abundance of sealife as well as smaller coral reefs, especially during the dry season. And with some luck, dolphins and whales can be spotted as well. The national park is amongst the smaller parks in Costa Rica, but has lots to offer including palm forests, white sand beaches, and 12 small coastal islands. The area is home to over 350 plant types and over 100 mammals such as the white-nosed coati, sloths, cappuccino monkeys, and armadillos. It is also home to most reptile varieties found on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.
OIL PALM PLANTATIONS AND THE RAINFOREST
The adjacent town of Quepos is a little town near the beach of Manuel Antonio. It has a number of shops, a small market, bars, restaurants, banks, and a few travel agents. The surrounding area is made up of agricultural areas and rainforest. Here one can find huge oil palm plantations. The town is home to many expats, particularly from America, who have settled here.
