Learn Japanese in Kanazawa
AN IMPORTANT PAST
Kanazawa is a well-known port and the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture on Honshu, Japan’s main island. The city is approximately 150 km north of Nagoya on the coast of the sea of Japan, with a population of some 460 000. Kanazawa dates back to the late 16th century and during the Edo period, was Japan’s richest city. Today, the city is still known for its famous past and is thus known as “Sho-Kyoto”, meaning “Little Kyoto”. Kanazawa is a city with many green spaces and a correspondingly pleasant atmosphere. One particular attraction for Japanese and foreign visitors is the Kenrokuen Garden- a masterpiece of Japanese garden artistry- that is one of Japans three finest gardens.
