LANGUAGE SCHOOL IN TROPEA
The language school Piccola Universita Italiana (previously known as “Caffe Culturale”) was founded in 1993 and received recognition from the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research in 2004. The school is centrally located in a glorious traditional country house in the heart of Tropea- not far from Capo Vaticano. The school building has 11 classrooms, an Internet room, a film room and 3 small and 2 large balconies. Classes are held either in the attractive rooms or outdoors on one of the balconies. Classes are limited to 6 participants at each level to give students maximum opportunity to speak. All participants take a written and oral placement test on the first day of the course, on the basis of which they are assigned to one of the 11 levels. Alongside the standard and combination courses, a preparatory course for the CILS exam is offered.
ACCOMMODATION
The Piccola Universita Italiana arranges accommodation in 1-room apartments or in single or double rooms in multi-room apartments. A typical 1-room apartment will have a spacious room with a cooking alcove and bath, which multi-room apartments consist of 2 or 3 rooms as well as a large living room/kitchen as well as 1 or 2 bathrooms (kitchen and bath are shared by the inhabitants). Hotels can also be booked upon request.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVIITES
The language school organizes social activities, parties, group dinners and outings with the school minibus along the coast or into the interior (e.g., to the mountain village of Gerace or the Aspermonte Nature Reserve) several times during the week. Cooking courses, wine tastings (with information on growing areas and grape varieties), music evenings with traditional or modern Italian music and watercolour painting are offered during the week. Tropea also offers many types of sports: catamaran sailing, water-skiing and surfing, diving, tennis, volleyball, mountain biking or riding or simply running on the beach and swimming in the glorious, crystal clear water.
