SHOPPING PARADISE ON THE BAHNHOFSTRASSE
Most sightseeing highlights in Zurich are located in and around the historic city quarter. On the right side of the old city, one can find the historic City Hall built in Renaissance style, the Roman Grossmuenster church, and the Zunfthaeuser (guild houses) along the Limmat Quay, all warranting a visit. The tower at the Grossmuenster church is open to the public and offers a good view over the historic quarter. On the left side of the Limmat Quay, it is worthwhile to wander through the old alleys, lined with houses built during the Middle Ages. The Fraumuenster church and the Gothic Augustiner church are also definitely worth a visit. The most famous street in Zurich is the Bahnhofstrasse, which leads from the train station to the lake. The street is lined with many banks and exclusive boutiques and jewellers, a pure joy for those who love to shop. Merchants looking to open a shop in this area must reach deep into their pockets, as the rent can be as high as CHF7,500 per square metre per year. So not only is retail space along the Bahnhofstrasse the most expensive in Swizterland, but it is also more expensive than space anywhere in Frankfurt, Munich, Cologne or Berlin.

THE NIGHTLIFE
Zurich offers a rich nightlife, with 500 bars, nightclubs, and discos. Amongst the most popular entertainment areas are Niederdoerfli, the Langstrasse district, and Zurich West. In the summer months, the nightlife spreads out into the streets, along the lake, at open-air theatres, and at the many events and bars that are set up under the warm summer skies. Those who like to take in some cultural sites before or after enjoying the bars are in the right place in Limmatstadt, with its many museums, exhibits, and galleries to visit. The Kunsthaus, for example, is one of the most progressive fine arts museums in Europe, with constantly changing exhibits. The world’s classical music stars perform at the Opernhaus (Opera House) and Tonhalle, and the biggest names in rock and pop music entertain at the Hallenstadion and the Folkhaus.
