Learn German in Frankfurt

THE CITY WITH THE MAGNIFICENT SKYLINE
Frankfurt is unquestionably one of the largest financial centres in Europe. It is the headquarters for the European Central bank, Deutsche Bank, and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. In the 1950’s, Frankfurt established itself as a ’city of high rises’ and is one of the few European cities with a magnificent skyline, garnering her the nickname, ’Mainhatten.’ Although Frankfurt has far fewer inhabitants than Munich and Berlin, this Main-metropolis is more international and globally spirited than any other German city. It’s no wonder that 50 million passengers use the Frankfurt airport annually. Franfurt is also host to many international trade exhibitions such as the famous Frankfurt Book Fair, Automobile Exhibition, and the ’Ambient Frankfurt.’ The immigrants in Frankfurt, which make up 28% of the population, contribute so much to the culture as well. Every summer, many different cultural groups take part in a parade.

URBAN CULTURE ALONG THE RIVER
But Frankfurt is not just about high-rises and modern living. In the historic city district, around the Roemerberg, one can find beautiful churches and buildings. The museums along the river bank (Museumsufer) are the cultural heartbeat of Frankfurt. Between ’Eisernem Steg’ and ’Friedensbruecke’ there are 13 museums, some of which are housed in old style villas, which have been renovated, and some in newly built, architecturally awesome buildings. These include a movie museum, a museum of architecture, museum of applied art, and the Jewish museum. Every Saturday, it is here that you can find one of the largest weekend flea markets in Germany. The ’Kleinmarkthalle’ is the city’s culinary centre, where on weekdays there are more than 150 stands selling food items.
