PLEASANT ALL YEAR ROUND
The year-round warm climate makes a visit to Guadeloupe pleasant at any season. In winter (December to February) the evenings are pleasantly mild and the temperatures range between 19 and 28°C. The period between February and April is especially dry, with rainfall on average 7 days a month and tolerable humidity. This milder period is also the main tourist season. The wettest months- and also the hurricane season, occurs between July and November: so keep your eye out for the weather forecast.
MANY CULTURAL EVENTS
Most cultural events occur in the spring and summer. The Fete des Cuisinières (Festival of the Cooks) is a colourful event at the beginning of August, at which women in Creole costume parade through the streets to the cathedral, where the Bishop blesses them.
CARNIVAL FEELING
Processions in costume, dancing, music and other festivities are typical of the carnival days, which occur in the traditional, weeklong Mardi Gras period, ending on Ash Wednesday. The Festival of the Cooks occurs at the beginning of August in the Pointe-à-Pitre. Women in Creole costume carry baskets filled with traditional foods through the streets to the cathedral, where the Bishop blesses them. A feast with dancing follows the procession. The Tour Cycliste de la Guadeloupe- a 10-day international bicycle race- is also held at the beginning of August.
