LANGUAGE SCHOOL IN COROMANDEL/WHITIANGA
The Coromandel Outdoor Language Centre is located in Whitianga, a small town directly on the coast, 3 hours by car or 30 minutes by air from Auckland. The population of 3000 in the idyllically situated village of Mercury Bay rises during New Zealand’s vacation season in December in January to around 25,000. The normally quiet little town changes at this time into a tourist centre, although Whitianga retains its charm even in the high season. The school is housed in a typical colonial style “cottage”. Two factors, the large garden and a maximum of 50 students, play an important role in maintaining the familiar, cozy atmosphere. Coromandel Outdoor Language Centre is a language school run by the owner himself with its own character and is unique in New Zealand. The school offers, along with advanced language courses, a multifaceted program of afternoon activities- an unconventional but successful way of learning English.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation is in host families- single rooms with half board Monday to Friday with full board on weekends. These are generally 10 to 15 minutes from the school. Many families make bicycles available to students. The size of the town means that students normally have a great deal of contact with their colleagues during the course and so get to know other host families as well. This guarantees plenty of contact with New Zealanders. The school can organize transfers from Auckland to Whitianga.
