Christchurch - Christchurch College of English CCEL

LANGUAGE SCHOOL IN CHRISTCHURCH
The Christchurch College of English, founded in 1992, is located amid the campus of the University of Canterbury. By car, it just takes 15 minutes to get from the school to the city centre. The 87-hectare campus is shared by the language learners and over 22,000 students, 2,000 of whom are international students. By staying there, you do not only learn about the culture of New Zealand but also about life on a university campus. The two-storey CCEL building has been particularly designed to the needs of language learners offering 20 light-flooded rooms and a self-study centre with 14 computer workstations. Wireless Internet is available throughout the building and free of charge. CCEL language learners can use the entire university infrastructure thus benefiting from an 11-storey library, a sports hall, a cafeteria, a tennis court and more. Thanks to the academic atmosphere, CCEL renders an ideal learning environment being supported by a distinct mix of nationalities including a few Europeans.

ACCOMMODATION
CCEL host families are carefully chosen. It normally takes 30-45 minutes by bus to get from the school to your hosts. Some host families live closer to the school and can be reached on foot. They offer accommodation in single rooms with half board during the week and full board at weekends. The Sonoda Residency is located on the university campus itself and consists of nice Japanese-style houses with gardens. Language learners stay in single rooms and share a kitchen, living room and bathroom with 4 others. For a flat share off campus, you may refer to the Welfare Coordinator or the notes on the bulletin board.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The school’s Activity Coordinator takes care of the multifaceted leisure program during the week. It ranges from sport activities on the campus and BBQ’s to visits to agricultural businesses. For weekend trips, the school cooperates with the tour operator Hello New Zealand. The diverse offering includes skiing and snowboarding tours, hikes, visits to nearby sights and a lot more. Learners often do things on their own initiative, too.
