The Torquay International School was founded in 1972 and is only 5 minutes’ walk from the city centre. With an average of 60 to 100 students from all over the world, the school is managed with serious concern for quality and offers experienced professional teaching staff, who attend in- house further education seminars at regular intervals. The small class size allows for a focus on individual students in teaching. Students can thus benefit more from the teaching- especially in the oral dimension. The Victorian school building, with 20 well-equipped classrooms, is surrounded by a large garden, which is an inviting destination during breaks in fine weather as well as being used for badminton, volleyball or BBQs. The language school has a student lounge with TV, a computer room with free internet and WiFi throughout the entire building.
ACCOMMODATION
The Torquay International School sets great store by an excellent range of accommodation. Many of the single rooms available with host families are accessible on foot or with a short bus ride. Full board on weekends and breakfast and dinner on school days are included in the price. As an alternative to host families, the school can recommend a wide choice of Bed and Breakfasts and hotels in a variety of price levels and categories.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The school runs a broad program of activities. For example, “new” students are invited on a tour of the town on the first day of the course. Exeter, Bath, Oxford and London are just some of the destinations offered by the school for excursions. Torquay, with its cinemas, restaurants and discos also offers a range of sports, including tennis, badminton, riding, swimming, and in season, sailing, windsurfing or just relaxing on one of Torbay’s 18 beaches.
