Excursions and hikes along the coast as far as the romantic moorland landscapes of Dartmoor in the interior of the county of Devon are an absolute must, for the area, with its sagas and legends, is deeply rooted in the history of Devon and its surrounding countryside.

Many people do not know that Torquay is the scene of “Fawlty Towers”, a famous ‘70s sitcom with John Cleese and Prunella Scales. The show was, however, filmed in Cambridge and Berkshire. Tourists nevertheless still look for the “Gleneagles Hotel”. When the filming was over, Prunella Scales, the leading lady, bought “Gleneagles Hotel” and modernized it. It now belongs to the Best Western chain.
