LANGUAGE SCHOOL IN OXFORD
The Oxford English Centre has existed since 1979 and offers preparatory courses for all Cambridge examinations in addition to standard and intensive courses. The language school is housed in a magnificent, traditional English manor house in the centre of Oxford, only 10 minutes walk from the city centre. The infrastructure includes 12 classrooms with modern equipment, a “Self-Study Centre” with TV/DVD and CD-ROMs, a language laboratory, a library and PCs with free Internet access. The school’s own restaurant, the Café Caramba, serves warm meals and snacks at affordable prices. The attractive garden and terrace are inviting locations for relaxation during the breaks and popular meeting places after class. The language school is thoroughly international in its orientation and welcomes students every year from over 70 countries. The average age of the students is around 24. In the winter, around 130 students are registered at the Oxford English Centre with the number rising to 400 in the summer. The proportion of Swiss students is still relatively modest in comparison to other schools in England.
ACCOMMODATION
The language school offers accommodation with host families in single rooms with half board (full board on weekends). The OEC monitors its host families regularly and insists on high standards. Depending on availability, a host family can be selected that offers a higher standard of quality. A higher standard means houses with larger single rooms, often with their own bath. RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The University City offers a wide range of possibilities: theatre, musicals, clubs, pubs, a large historic centre, and cinemas, to name but a few. The school also has its own recreational program with communal dinners and pub evenings, visits to museums, theatres, musicals and dog races, city tours, karaoke and much more. Excursions to London, Bath, Cambridge, Stonehenge, Brighton, Bristol or Portsmouth are generally available on weekends.
