ORIGINAL HARBOUR
Exeter is Devon’s lively county town, “throned in splendour” on a plateau above the River Exe. The German Air Force destroyed most of the city centre during the Second World War. Everything was carefully rebuilt after the war and the unique character of the city has been preserved. Important historic buildings are intact, including the Cathedral Church of St. Mary and St. Peter, one of Britain’s most magnificent ecclesiastical buildings, “Mol’s Coffee House”, one of the finest Elizabethan buildings, and many others. The harbour area is unique: the ugly 19th century warehouses have been converted into cafés, pubs, antique shops and art galleries, creating a unique tourist attraction.
