LANGUAGE SCHOOL IN COLCHESTER
The Colchester English Study Centre, which is recognized by the British Council, was founded in 1969. The school organizes a wide selection of courses and has a worldwide reputation as an official test centre for the Cambridge examinations. The experienced teaching staff are all highly trained and their mother tongue is exclusively English. The school is housed in a large Gregorian style building, only 10 minutes’ walk from the town centre. Behind the building is a large garden where students can relax during the breaks. The international composition of the classes is a additional plus, as is the family atmosphere; Swiss participants are very much a minority. The school has good, well-equipped classrooms and a multimedia room with 13 computers, to which students have access after class as well. The library, video library and Listening Centre are also in high demand. Light meals and snacks are available at noon at the school’s own cafeteria. As an alternative, students can eat in one of the nearby cafés or restaurants in the city centre.
ACCOMMODATION
The Colchester English Study Centre offers single rooms with breakfast and dinner in carefully selected host families near the school. Since the city is relatively small, most students are able either to walk or cycle to school; bicycles can be rented on site.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The school organizes a varied program of recreational activities during the week. Visits to theatres and pubs, video evenings on the school’s own wide screen or party nights are on the agenda. Since central London is only 50 minutes away by train, it is a very popular destination, within reach even for evening concerts. The school also offers inexpensive excursions on weekends to Cambridge, Norwich, Brighton, Oxford or Leeds Castle.
