THE DICKENS HERITAGE
Broadstairs is a picturesque fishing town on the southeast coast of England in the county of Kent on the Isle of Thanet, a peninsula with white chalk cliffs and a magnificent white sandy beach. The town is a popular resort in summer and is, for example, where Charles Dickens spent his long holidays. “Bleak House” where he lived, was a privately operated museum until 2004 when it was closed for financial reasons. The novel “Bleak House” which Dickens wrote between 1852 and 1853, owes its name to this house. The famous author also wrote the novel David Copperfield in the town. Other prominent visitors were Edward Heath and Queen Victoria, who spent her summer holidays in Broadstairs on numerous occasions.
