ANTS AND RED SQUIRRELS
Many types of animals and plants that are otherwise rare in Britain can be found in the Bournemouth area. Nearby Brownsea Island is one of the few places in southern England where red squirrels can still be found. The ant “Formica pratensis” was seen in the Bournemouth area until the 1980’s, but now appears to have died out.
