The capital of Western Australia, which covers approximately one third of Australia, is one of the fifth continents most sun kissed cities. The modern city centre makes a lively impression and offers something for every visitor. From Kings Park, which is located somewhat outside Perth, visitors have a fine view over the metropolis. A walk along the banks of the Swan River, which divides the city and is lined with picnic and sports grounds, is especially appealing. INDIAN OCEAN BEACHES
Only 11 kilometres from the city lies Fremantle, the historic harbour that was the starting point for the America’s Cup in 1987. The year-round mild climate makes the beaches close to the city centre particularly attractive. Sports enthusiasts find them ideal for wind-surfing and diving, or just for sunbathing and swimming. Unique in Australia are the trusting dolphins, which on certain beaches on the west coast sometimes swim right up to the shore.

Western Australia can be described as home to Australia’s most varied scenery. Thick rainforests alternate with sparse bush land and huge deserts as well as fascinating rocky landscapes. The pioneer spirit of earlier decades is still very much alive and recalls the difficulties faced by the first settlers. But in today’s Perth, a city that loves life- even if it is the only large city on the west coast- visitors feel little of the remoteness and endless space of the surrounding country.
