The Australian College of English has had a presence in Cairns since mid-2005. The school is located in a typical Queensland-style building in the city centre. Stores, restaurants, pubs and the attractive Cairns Esplanade are within a few minutes walk. The school has highly motivated, well trained teachers and offers courses for all levels, along with the popular Cambridge courses. ACE in Cairns is informal and intimate because of its medium size. The air-conditioned building has 9 comfortable classrooms, a computer room with free internet access and its own library. Students have access to 2 large terraces during the breaks.
ACCOMMODATION
Host families are selected with great care by the school. They are an average of 20 minutes away by bus or bike Purchase or rental of a bike is highly recommended, especially since Cairns is quite small and has relatively little traffic. The host families offer single rooms with breakfast and dinner. Lunch is also included on weekends. On request, the school can also arrange accommodation in a studio or apartment.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The Australian College of English organizes a weekly programme of sports, including badminton, football, swimming or tennis. An attractive programme of weekend excursions is also offered. In addition, countless local companies arrange excursions to the Great Barrier Reef. Bungee jumping, parachuting, diving, sailing and trips to the rain forest are also available.
